A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for most of the DC Metro Area until 10pm tonight.  Several isolated cells of severe thunderstorms have already formed over Virginia, so make sure to keep an eye on the weather and your NOAA weather radios on throughout the day.  These storms will have the potential to produce damaging winds in excess of 60mph, and large hail.

Severe T-Storm Watch until 10pm

6/26/13 DC Area SVR T-Storm Watch

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has put most of the DC Metro area under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10pm tonight.

As an upper level disturbance passes over our area this afternoon and evening, instability will continue to lead to scattered thunderstorms, many of which will turn severe.  Numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have already been issued in Virginia.

The main threat from these storms will be damaging winds in excess of 60mph, and large hail.

Keep your weather radios on today and tonight as numerous more Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are expected.

After a cloudy and gloomy start to the day across the DC area, the sun has come out this afternoon as temperatures still hover in the mid-70s.  The “official” start of summer is coming on Friday, but will our forecast match that?  Read on after the break to find out!
